AM Technology scoops national innovation award

AM Technology, a resident at The Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn, has secured a prestigious national Business Innovation Award for its pioneering work in flow chemistry.

The company, which specialises in developing chemical reactors and reactor control systems, was one of only three winners at the high-profile ceremony, which was supported by the Government through UK Trade & Investment.

AM Technology’s success came in the ‘Energy and Environment’ category where it took top honours for its work in developing a new flow reactor for the continuous manufacture of chemical compounds for the pharmaceutical industry. The ground-breaking success looks set to drastically improve manufacturing yields for the UK.

Robert Ashe of AM Technology said: “As a small company the recognition offered by a Business Innovation Award can only help to raise our profile. We see this success as a tremendous tribute to the hard work of the entire team at AM Technology and to the incredible level of expertise within the company.”

Since its creation in 2000 the business has been highly successful in designing and developing chemical process equipment and has established a strong portfolio of global patents for batch and continuous reactors. Originally based in Elstree, Hertfordshire, it relocated to The Heath to gain access to the vast range of technical skills available locally.

AM Technology’s success at the Business Innovation Awards recognised the specific achievements of its Coflore ACR, a flow reactor that has proved highly effective in handling viscous fluids, immiscible liquids, slurries and gas/liquid mixtures at both low and high throughputs.

The awards ceremony formed part of the internationally recognised UK NanoForum & Emerging Technologies Conference 2009, which attracted more than 450 delegates from around 20 countries to the London Hilton on Park Lane.

The event was hosted by the Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN) and the Government’s UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

Speaking during the conference, Lord Davies of Abersoch, Minister for Trade, Investment and Small Business, praised the “trailblazers” attending the event. “Here in the UK we have a truly first-class record of innovation. The country’s most forward-thinking companies are helping to shape the future and secure our future prosperity.”

AM Technology’s innovation award was also applauded by SOG Ltd, the company that owns and manages The Heath Business and Technical Park. SOG’s Managing Director Dr Peter Cook said: “The Heath has always been home to companies at the cutting edge of research, development and technology. We are absolutely delighted by the success achieved by AM Technology and offer the company our warmest congratulations on being recognised at the very highest level.

“We wish the company continued success in the future as it continues its pioneering role in this all-important sector of business.”

As part of its award, AM Technology will be presented with funds to assist it in attending and participating in an overseas nanotechnology event.
