Hectic summer adds to dazzling debut for Thorns' staffing venture

Staffing specialist Thorns Support Services Ltd has completed its first summer of operations by securing contracts at world-famous Lord’s cricket ground and at Birmingham's NEC.

The venture, which was launched earlier this year, has provided temporary back-of-house personnel as the “home of cricket” hosted many of the year’s biggest sporting spectaculars.

Thorns’ staff were on hand for England’s victorious First npower Test against the West Indies and for a number of thrilling fixtures during this summer’s ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

Having helped during visits by the likes of South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Thorns was back in strength for one of this summer’s most anticipated clashes – England’s Ashes battle against mighty Australia.

Meanwhile Thorns Support Services' assignments at the NEC have involved the business providing personnel for events as diverse as the X Factor UK Live Tour, world-famous dog show Crufts and concerts by Snow Patrol and Simply Red.

Thorns Support Services Managing Director Wayne Smith said: "We've enjoyed a stunning first summer of business. For a fledging venture such as Thorns Support Services to secure such high-profile contracts at Lord's and the NEC is a fantastic vote of confidence in the quality and commitment of our entire team.”

As well as providing Lord's with personnel such as kitchen porters during high-profile cricket matches, the business has also been busy during non-sporting events. The world-famous London sporting venue is a favourite location for a broad range of activities including meetings, conferences, exhibitions, product launches, weddings and private parties.
