Thorns works its magic at the Royal ShowWhen the Royal Show closed its doors ending 160 years of outdoor agricultural exhibiting, Thorns Group was on hand to make sure it was a spectacular send-off. With its long-standing relationship with organisers, Thorns made sure visitors were sitting comfortably thanks to its vast range of furniture. The company helped to provide that “wow” factor in many areas including the exclusive Governor’s Pavilion and Farmer Club marquee, where it provided the natural ‘Bali’ cane armchairs, coffee tables, bars and garden furniture. Held over four days from July 7th to 10th, the show attracted more than 100,000 visitors to Stoneleigh Park set in 250 acres of beautiful Warwickshire countryside. Organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE), the event began with a pageant paying tribute to its history followed by an action-packed programme in the Grand Ring. Visitors were treated to cookery and craft demonstrations, countryside pursuits, an extended farmers’ market and food halls. The first Royal Show, launched as a flagship event for British farming, was held in 1839 in Oxford, after which it moved north to Liverpool and Manchester and finally found a home at Stoneleigh Park in 1963. Since then it has become the ideal opportunity for visitors to learn more about farming, food and the environment. Throughout its long history the show has only missed 11 years, for example during the two world wars, and this year’s event was the 160th.
