Royals at unveiling of prestigious energy project
De Boer created a private viewing area for Her Majesty the Queen, other senior royals and leading politicians at the official opening of a major addition to Britain’s energy network.
De Boer was appointed by WRG Creative Communication, one of the UK’s leading production agencies, to supply structures to the high-profile ceremony at Milford Haven port in Pembrokeshire which marked the completion of two huge liquefied natural gas facilities and a 200-mile pipeline that links the site to Britain’s extensive energy supply network. The royal party included The Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Andrew alongside the ruler of Qatar and two members of his family. More than 2,000 square metres of temporary accommodation were provided by De Boer, with a number of inter-linked Alu Hall and President’s Double Decker structures transformed into a VIP area as well as other facilities such as a media centre, exhibition space and offices for the opening ceremony on Tuesday, May 12. De Boer transported structures and equipment from its bases at Brackley in Northamptonshire and Bree in Belgium. It also provided linings and carpeting. The sloping site, on a contractors’ car park to the northern side of the huge Milford Haven port, meant that De Boer had to use a scaffold platform to raise one end of the temporary accommodation by as much as three metres. De Boer Sales Manager James Watts said: “The official opening of the new facilities at Milford Haven and the pipeline linking them to the rest of the UK marked a significant new chapter for Britain’s energy network. Once again we’re extremely proud that De Boer was called on to play a part in such a major event.” He added: “We’re delighted to have been able to provide facilities for HM the Queen and other dignitaries, as we have on many occasions at events as varied as film premieres and the annual RHS Chelsea Flower Show.” WRG Creative Communication, which operates out of offices in Manchester and High Wycombe, was appointed to create a unique and stunning environment for the historic occasion and turned to De Boer to provide a wide range of structures to complement their innovative creations. WRG Managing Director Barry Day said: “I was delighted to work with De Boer to deliver this unique project. My team created a really memorable environment for this remarkable occasion. It was vital we had structures that were complementary to the quality of our creation and I was certainly extremely pleased with the end result.” The build process at Milford Haven took De Boer’s team just over two weeks. The pull-out is expected to be completed within eight days, beginning immediately after the high-profile ceremony was concluded. Recent developments at Milford Haven mean the port is now home to Europe’s largest liquefied natural gas terminal. Consignments of refrigerated gas have already started arriving at a new jetty, with supplies then pumped through the new 200-mile pipeline to Gloucestershire, where they join the network of routes serving the rest of the country. The recent arrival of the first consignment – from Qatar in the Gulf – brought more than 200,000 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas. It has been widely heralded as helping to diversify energy supplies to the UK.
