Oh yes it is! Panto Pantodrome theatre built by Neptunus

Temporary structure specialists Neptunus have been commissioned to build an 840-seat theatre in Newcastle's city centre that will stage this year's star studded Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime starring Denise Welch and Adam Thomas.

Neptunus have been awarded a three-year contract by NS Pantomimes, a North East based company which operates within the theatre and performing arts industry, to construct a temporary ‘Pantodrome’ in Times Square, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which will operate each December.
April Trasler, Managing Director of Neptunus, says: “NS has a professional pantomimes division which offers affordable and accessible entertainment to families in the North East, using actors and dancers from the region. They were looking to create a fantastic new theatre experience in the city and approached us after hearing about our success in providing bespoke temporary entertainment venues at major events, such as the National Eisteddfod.

“Indeed, representatives from NS came to this summer’s National Eisteddfod in Anglesey and were amazed by the quality of the 2,000-seat theatre we built for that very high-profile event which was broadcast on TV across Wales.”
As a result, the company appointed Neptunus to design a bespoke facility for their pantomime season. The solution comes in the shape of one of the company’s high-tech Evolution structures that, spanning more than 1,000 square metres and standing on eight metre high legs, will form the main auditorium. A 300 square metre Alure Globe will adjoin the main structure to form an entrance foyer, bar area and washrooms.

Neptunus’ technicians will take just a week to build the temporary theatre and a further week to remove it once the panto season ends. Neptunus are also responsible for providing an under-structure to ensure a level base for the venue, tiered seating and toilet facilities for audiences and the cast.

The building will be open from December 11th through to December 30th with 40 performances of the popular Jack and the Beanstalk story with former Coronation Street, Waterloo Road and Loose Women star Denise Welch appearing as Mother Nature and Emmerdale’s Adam Thomas as Jack.
Jamie Owen Gray, Managing Director of NS Pantomimes, says: I’m delighted to be bringing this exciting show to Newcastle city centre this Christmas in our brand new theatre! Neptunus have delivered some exceptional work up and down the country and I’m thrilled to be working alongside the team to create the Pantodrome for this year’s magical panto adventure.”
