Recruitment drive for financial mentoring enterprise at The Heath

Runcorn: March 9, 2015: A not-for-profit social enterprise providing personalised everyday money management support is launching a recruitment drive for volunteers from its base at The Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn.

Anita Robinson, (right), founder of Money Mentoring Ltd, moved into offices at The Heath in January to offer ongoing money management support to vulnerable adults. Having spent much of her career in the third sector and after a decade of service with Age UK, Anita founded her business as a response to the short-term help currently being offered.

Anita said: “The population of older people is growing and as a result the need for ongoing money management support is increasing. We’re also seeing an increase in the need for a support as a direct result of welfare reform, especially for those who have learning difficulties, physical disabilities or mental illness. It’s becoming a big issue.

“Helping people claim the benefits to which they’re entitled, setting up appropriate bank accounts, budgeting, accounting, bill paying and the prevention of bad debts are typical of some of the types of support we offer. This isn’t a short-term thing, we will help for as long as it is needed.”

“A recent example is a client who was in her eighties and living in a care home. She owned her own property and was receiving threatening council tax, care home and utility bill demands. As she was blind she was unable deal with the correspondence herself, she also had no family to assist, and the care home in which she resided could not help as there would have been a conflict of interest. She was frail, scared and powerless. That is where Money Mentoring Ltd came in. We took on the task of corresponding with all parties and provided her with the peace of mind of knowing it was all being taken care of for her.”

Money Mentoring is launching a recruitment drive for volunteer mentors across Cheshire to further the reach of their much needed services, utilising The Heath’s spacious events suites to carry out training.

Anita said: “We provide volunteer mentors with all the training they need to deliver effective support. Through their training, the experience they gain and the skillset they develop (such as book keeping) we can reach a wider range of vulnerable people who desperately need our help.”

Lesley Lunt, The Heath Business and Technical Park’s Sales and Marketing Manager, said: “The wonderful thing about The Heath is that it provides a home for such a diverse range of businesses and services. Money Mentoring is offering an important service to a vulnerable section of society.”
