Global Infusion Group at San Diego
The 2017 Extreme Sailing Series™ moves on to San Diego this weekend and once again the high octane sailing teams will be fueled with food and refreshments produced by Global Infusion Group (GIG).
GIG will be ensuring all the race teams, their support crews, media, organisational staff and hundreds of VIP spectators receive top-class food and beverages during the four days of competition which takes place between October 19th and 22nd at Harbor Island, a man-made peninsula close to the city.
San Diego is the 7th and penultimate act of the series which is currently led by Denmark-flagged syndicate SAP Extreme Sailing Team which has won three of the first six contests, putting them two points ahead of the 2016 runners-up Oman Air with the 2016 Champions Alinghi of Switzerland five points behind in third place.
Around 40 of the worlds top sailors including World Champions, Olympic medallists, America Cup winners and Round-the-World sailing legends form the crews of six international teams competing for the 2017 title, with the 8th and final Act of this years competition schedule to take place in Mexico at the end of November.
GIGs role in California follows on from the success of catering the three European Acts of the series in the summer in Hamburg, Barcelona and Cardiff. GIG were appointed by OC Sport — the global Sport, Marketing and Events Company which organises the Extreme Sailing Series.
GIGs eight-strong culinary team, supported by locally-based assistants, serve hundreds of breakfasts, lunches and dinners each days as well as providing a range of snacks, nibbles and even packed lunches for the competitors.
The Extreme Sailing Series gives the worlds leading sailors from various disciplines the opportunity to compete on a level playing-field. Their GC32 hydro-foiling catamarans are one of the worlds fastest designs — the 12 metre long, carbon fibre high-performance craft can reach speeds approaching 40 knots.
Its an adrenaline-fuelled sport and participants need to be at the very top of their game to perform. Energy levels are vital, so food is critical.
Bonnie May, GIGs Global Operations Director, says: Food is very important, therefore it is essential that we offer the right sort of dishes to give these elite sportsmen and women the sustenance they require to perform at such an intense level. Our chefs create special menus for different categories within the sailing teams based on their nutritional and dietary requirements.
Pascale Mcilwaine, Guest Experience Manager for Extreme Sailing Series, complimented GIG on its service and performance. She said: As always, the food and the team were amazing. We have had so many fantastic comments!
