The Heath supports NHS blood donation service

Blood donations are critical to the NHS and while blood stocks have remained good throughout the pandemic, it has been a challenge to ensure appropriate venue space for donor sessions due to closures, other crucial services using the space or because a venue cannot accommodate the self-distancing regulations.

The Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn has for a number of years been a regular location for the North West arm of NHS Blood and Transplant Wednesday, July 1st The Heath again opened its events space for blood donations.

Sarah, Regional Planning Co-ordinator for NHS Blood and Transplant North West, says: “The Heath is an ideal location because of the spacious rooms it has available, which are particularly important at a time when we need to ensure that our donors can keep a distance when they come to donate blood.”

The need for blood never stops and donations have continued throughout Lockdown due to the medical necessity for the NHS.

Says Sarah: “We’ve worked hard to ensure extra measures are in place to put the safety of donors and staff at the heart of our service.

“Thanks to donors, blood has remained in good supply during the pandemic. As elective surgery slowly resumes it’s now important that donors continue to donate and stick to their appointments, as they have done, so that we can keep up with the growing demand from hospitals in the coming weeks and months.

John Lewis MBE, owner of The Heath Business and Technical Park, says: “Although first and foremost we are a major business centre, The Heath is also an important centre for the local community. Giving blood is massively important, and I’m pleased that we are able to offer our venue to support this NHS service. We have the ability to provide space here which can be adapted to requirements, accommodate all equipment while meeting the self-distancing regulations.

“I hope that the many businesses located at The Heath and the local community from the surrounding area will continue to support this vital service.”

The NHS Blood and Transplant blood donation team will be back at The Heath on September 30th. Extra safety measures are in place at the sessions to keep donors and NHS staff safe at this time. For information on giving blood and COVID-19 visit https://www.blood.co.uk/
