HeathLive to stage exclusive podcast with UK's top sports psychiatrist Steve Peters

HeathLive, the community website of The Heath Business and Technical Park, is hosting a live and exclusive podcast this week with Professor Steve Peters who is widely regarded as the UK's leading sports psychiatrist.

Professor Peters is renowned for his work in elite sport but is also recognised across a wide range of disciplines from health and education to business. His podcast, which can be viewed on the HeathLive website and HeathLive’s Facebook Page on Thursday morning May 7th, will help people struggling to cope with psychological issues during the Coronavirus lockdown, and give an insight into Professor Peter’s fascinating career.

A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, he came to prominence when he was appointed to the British Cycling Team working with Olympic and World Champions including Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton. He also worked with snooker World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and with UK Athletics’ elite athletes during the London 2012 Olympic Games. He has also been a consultant for the England and Liverpool football teams.

Mark McGrath, Fitness Manager of The Heath’s Gym and Leisure Suite, says: “This is a massive coup for HeathLive. Steve Peters is known around the world for his amazing work with elite athletes. Although fitness is essential in all sports, having the right mindset is critical for any successful athlete. Steve has helped some of the UK’s biggest name athletes to fulfil their potential and to achieve their goals of winning Olympic Gold medals and world titles.”

Mark says Professor Peters agreed to do an exclusive podcast for HeathLive through his connection to one of The Heath’s Fitness Instructors, Darren Scott. Darren is a world-record breaking Masters’ Athletics Champion where he regularly competes with Professor Peters who himself is a champion Masters’ athlete.

“When Darren told me that he knew and competed with Steve Peters on the Masters’ Athletics circuit, and knowing about Steve’s amazing work with elite sportsmen and women, I just had to see if we could get him to engage with our Leisure Suite members and HeathLive community.”

As a result of the Lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic, The Heath Leisure Suite is temporarily closed but exercise classes are being staged through HeathLive, which was set up for the resident businesses and the local community who regularly use the sports and leisure facilities, to combat isolation and loneliness.

Mark adds: “HeathLive has been a tremendous success and attracted lots of attention, with many celebrities posting messages to us.”

Professor Peter’s live podcast can be viewed from 11.30am to 12noon on Thursday, May 7th via HeathLive’s Facebook

and from the HeathLive website

Leisure Suite members and viewers of the HeathLive website are invited to watch the podcast and can send their questions to Professor Peters.
