Neptunus on parade at RAF centenary anniversary celebration

Temporary structure specialists Neptunus helped the Royal Air Force celebrate its historic 100th anniversary by creating a special facility for VIPs on London's Horse Guards Parade incorporating a static display of aircraft.

Tens of thousands of people packed The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace on Tuesday as 100 planes took part in a spectacular flypast in front of The Queen and senior members of the Royal Family who viewed the proceedings from the Palace balcony.

The Royal party which included the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Anne and the Duke of York, looked on as 22 Typhoon jets spelt out 100 as they flew in formation over London. It was the first time the RAF’s latest aircraft the F-35 Lightning stealth fighters had been seen over London, and The Red Arrows concluded the flying display by streaming red, white and blue smoke as they soared over the crowds.

On the ground Royal Air Force personnel joined in the celebrations on the palace forecourt where their formation spelt out ’RAF 100’ as the National Anthem was played.

During the day around 5,000 VIPs were entertained in a massive temporary cafeteria erected by Neptunus on Horse Guards Parade. Neptunus’ technicians took just seven days to build more than 3,500 square metres of temporary structures which also housed kitchen and First Aid facilities, exhibition space and open sided aircraft hangars where historic planes such as the Dakota and Spitfire were on static display.

Neptunus was appointed as temporary structure supplier to the anniversary celebration by M-Integrated Solutions PLC (M-is) who specialise in digital media and communications services, and staging live events for governments and institutions around the world.

April Trasler, Managing Director of Neptunus, said: “It was a tremendous honour for Neptunus to be asked to supply facilities to such a high-profile, historic and prestigious occasion. We have successfully collaborated with M-is on a number of major assignments — most recently for The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London earlier this year.”

Stewart Hudd, Technical Director of M-is, said: “Neptunus delivered on time with the right budget and as always the team are great to work with. Here’s to the next one.”
