Elutec's 'Open Day' invitation to parents and students

Dagenham – February 18, 2016: Elutec College of Design and Engineering, situated at the Londoneast-uk Business and Technical Park in Dagenham, is inviting Year 9 and Year 11 students and their parents to an Open Day on Saturday, March 19.

Elutec is a university technical college (UTC), which is a type of secondary school, for young people aged 14 to 19 that is sponsored by a university and local employers. The Elutec-style schools were set up by the government to encourage young people to study technical subjects and sciences.

At Elutec students in Year 10 and 11 study engineering along with the core subjects of English, maths, sciences, ICT and a modern foreign language. It is sponsored by Ford Motor Company, University College London, CEME and Procat (Prospects College of Advanced Technology). The sponsors are represented on the governing body and work closely with the school and the students.

Elutec is currently working out of temporary school which has been created at Londoneast-uk while a permanent campus, scheduled to open in August 2016, is being built at the location.

The permanent campus, which will accommodate 600 students, will have classrooms, engineering workshops, science laboratories, sports hall, a Pod lecture space with a main reception and forum for exhibiting students’ work. There will also be students’ common rooms, dining areas, staff room, administration offices and toilets.

Elutec is currently offering 300 student places for September 2016 — 150 in Year 10 and 150 in Year 12. For more information about the admissions process please contact the school.

Elutec Principal Ruth Umerah says: “We have super opportunities for young people in Year 9 or Year 11 who are interested in science, technology, engineering, maths or design. We want students and their parents to come to our Open Day to discover more about Elutec, hear about all the options that are available and also learn about our fantastic new campus which is currently being built.

“Although we are a new college in only our second year, we are situated in a great location at Londoneast-uk with our students studying and working in the heart of a business and technology park which is a perfect setting for the academic subjects we offer.”

Ruth adds: “We hope lots of people will take up our invitation to attend on March 19 but if this date isn’t convenient our doors are always open during school time if students or parents want to come in and see us.”
The Open Day is from 10.30am until 3pm with an opportunity to meet teachers, existing students and view examples of the vast range of work being undertaken at the college.

About Londoneast-uk
Londoneast-uk Business and Technical Park is situated in Dagenham, east London, and is located in state-of-the-art scientific buildings and land which was once a major manufacturing plant of global pharmaceutical company Sanofi.

Now under the ownership of SOG Group — owner and operator of the award-winning Heath Business and Technical Park in Cheshire — highly specialised research & development and manufacturing buildings, which would cost tens of millions of pounds to replicate in today’s market, have been rebranded under the banner of Londoneast-uk and are being transformed into a business and technical park to service London and the Home Counties. Londoneast-uk operates as a sister park to The Heath in Runcorn which is regarded as one of the UK’s leading independently-owned technology parks. For more information visit: www.londoneast-uk.com
