Sugar Loaf Inn’s family fun weekend in aid of SKIDZ

May 19, 2015: The Sugar Loaf Inn in Little Chalfont is staging a family fun festival over the May Bank Holiday weekend (May 23-25) to raise funds for motor project charity SKIDZ.

The popular pub/restaurant is holding a beer festival over all three days with a packed programme of events for all the family to enjoy including a karaoke and disco on Saturday evening and a live band on Sunday evening. Throughout the weekend children will be able to play on a bouncy castle and tuck into popcorn and candyfloss making machines.

On Saturday Buckinghamshire Fire Service will be on site with one of their fire engines and the following day steam engines will be on display. The Sugar Loaf Inn is also holding a fund-raising raffle and a pool tournament on Sunday.

The family Fun Festival was the idea of Landlord Valter Nazzaroli and one of his regular customers Mrs Sam Butcher. Mr Nazzaroli said: “I’ve known about the wonderful work undertaken by SKIDZ for some time and have been to see their premises in High Wycombe to meet some of the students and instructors. Engaging with young people through motor mechanics is really important and it’s great that SKIDZ are helping young people learn a trade and gain qualifications which will help them find jobs in the future.”

Since it was set up in 1997 SKIDZ has steered over 8,000 youngsters to a brighter future across the region. Their courses were originally designed to focus on disadvantaged, disengaged and disaffected 13-16 year olds whom it sought to re-connect with mainstream education via motor vehicle studies delivered in an adult environment.

However, the charity’s results have been so successful that SKIDZ has extended its range of courses to allow local schools, colleges and adults to access a variety of specialist courses. These include NVQ studies with programmes for 16-19 year-olds, dedicated courses for girls and courses for older candidates.

Mr Nazzaroli’s 15-year-old son Marco is one of around 40 young people who have enrolled on the 2015/16 SKIDZ’ IMI Level 1 motor vehicle maintenance and repair course which starts in September. There is still some limited availability on this course and more information can be found on the SKIDZ website at www.skidz.org.uk

SKIDZ CEO Graham Andrews said: “As a charity we are working hard to be self-sufficient but we are still dependent on donations to support our efforts. We’re immensely grateful to Mr Nazzaroli and the staff and customers of The Sugar Loaf Inn for choosing SKIDZ to be the beneficiary of proceeds from this marvellous weekend. There will be representatives of SKIDZ on hand to talk about our work and to advise young people on how they can access our courses.”
