Fun for all the family at The Edible Garden Show and Good Life Live – proving growing your own isn’t just for grown ups

London – March 20, 2015: Growing your own fruit and veg is something the whole family can enjoy and its why this year’s Edible Garden Show – taking place at London’s Alexandra Palace from March 20-22 – is demonstrating gardening isn’t just for grown-ups.

Families growing together is at the very of heart of the show. Tomorrow (Saturday, March 21) CBeebies’ popular, green-fingered Mr Bloom from Mr Bloom’s Nursery will be bringing all the fun of his fertile allotment to the event – the UK’s only national show dedicated to growing your own.

The happy-go-lucky singing gardener who is played by Ben Faulks, will be popping into the Experts Theatre to inspire the ‘tiddlers’ with his high-energy performance.

The live action will feature a host of games and catchy songs to get the children inspired by gardening and nature.

Ben is looking forward to his appearance as it’s a great opportunity for Mr Bloom to directly engage with the audience at home. The CBeebies’ show sees small groups of children visiting his allotment, feeding his wondrous homemade ‘Compostarium’ compost bin and interacting with the Veggies.

He said: “I believe it’s really important to provide accessible events for the younger audience to engage with nature, so that they can learn about all the benefits of horticulture from the ground up, so to speak. They’re naturally drawn to the garden, and let’s face it, it’s an amazing place where all manner of treasures and treats grow. So let’s get them inspired and actively support their development in this area.”

Show Director Geraldine Reeve is delighted that Mr Bloom will be part of the 2015 show. She said: “Since Mr Bloom’s Nursery started in 2011, Ben Faulks and his character Mr Bloom have been credited with turning a generation of kids into young gardeners, so it’s fantastic that he will be joining our incredible line-up who will be inspiring and enthusing our visitors to start digging for their dinner plate.”

“In addition to providing expert advice and new ideas to both novices and seasoned growers it is imperative that we start at the grass roots providing interactive content for our younger visitors so they can find out about growing your own fruit and vegetables in a fun way.”

The show, which boasts a brand new sister event, Good Life Live, has something for all the family and is packed with not-to-be-missed exhibits featuring a broad range of grow your own products – many aimed at getting families into the garden together. In addition to famous chefs Rachel Green and Mark Lloyd, visitors will enjoy an incredible line-up of gardening experts including James Wong, Pippa Greenwood and Paul Peacock, who will be providing new ideas to novice gardeners and seasoned growers alike.

The Skinny Jeans Gardeners, brothers Lee and Dale Connelly, who have appeared on Blue Peter and Radio 1 will be in the HIPPO Potting Shed, to share their exciting brand of gardening. From seed bombin, to moss graffiti to homemade shampoo, these two are dedicated to bringing gardening to a new generation.

There are also plenty of interactive sessions for children including baking bread in a plant pot and making their own butter in the Make it! area. They can hold baby chicks in the Chicken Coop, listen to stories on the Village Green, meet the animals in the pop up City Farm or get creative in the Family Zone.
