De Boer makes final push ahead of Farnborough’s massive airshow
Staff from structure specialist De Boer – and many hundreds of sub-contractors and exhibitors – have faced a hectic final few days ahead of this week’s spectacular Farnborough International Airshow.
The frenetic activity on site has followed the formal transfer of tens of thousands of square metres of accommodation to show organiser Farnborough International Limited (FIL). The handover marked a significant step for De Boer, which has been present at the Hampshire airport since the beginning of March with teams of up to 45 personnel working each day to create Europe’s largest temporary exhibition venue. De Boer’s facilities total 90,000 square metres – offering floor space equivalent to 460 tennis courts! The transfer of facilities to FIL enabled huge numbers of exhibitors and sub-contractors to move in ahead of the seven-day aviation spectacular, which gets under way today (Monday July 19). De Boer has erected four mighty exhibition halls, which have become temporary home to leading aviation and aerospace companies from across the globe, as well as around a kilometre of hospitality chalets, which are likely to play a key role in the multi-billion-pound deals expected to be signed during the 2010 event. As well as exhibition halls and hospitality facilities, the company’s temporary accommodation is being put to a vast range of uses including as business suites, offices, media centre, merchandising facilities, public dining halls and family areas. Individual product ranges being used at this year’s airshow include De Boer’s mighty A-frames, its stunning double-decker Emperor and its futuristic, circular Panorama Domes. Farnborough 2010 also sees the UK debut of the company’s latest exciting product, the highly versatile, modular Premier – no fewer than four of which are being transformed into hospitality facilities during the event. De Boer Project Manager Liz Routh said: “The Farnborough International Airshow continues to be a logistically complex assignment for De Boer, not least because of the huge number of structures required and the vast range of different products being used. The 2010 event has proven to be a superb demonstration of team work at its best, both within the De Boer team and with our client, FIL.” De Boer – which is tackling its eighth show – has transported more than 200 articulated lorry loads of equipment, with its structures weighing an incredible 3,600 tonnes. Farnborough International Airshow is one of the world's most iconic aviation events. The first five days of the show are traditionally trade days only, followed by a weekend where the exhibition is opened to the public. FIA 2008 was a record-breaking year for business with US$88.7 billion worth of orders announced during the show which also featured 165 aircraft in static displays and spectacular flying displays. The public weekend attracted a staggering 153,000 visitors.
