Airshow double ensures high-flying summer for Thorns

Thorns Group has secured contracts at two of the aviation world’s most spectacular gatherings – the Royal International Air Tattoo and the Royal Air Force Waddington International Air Show.

Between them, the high-profile events attract hundreds of thousands of visitors and feature flying and static displays by many of the fastest, largest and most technically advanced aircraft on the planet.

The contracts mark a great success for Thorns – one of the UK’s leading independent suppliers of furniture and catering equipment – as each show has hired the group on a multi-year deal.

As part of the new agreement with organisers and caterers of RAF Waddington International Air Show, Thorns will provide garden furniture and a wide range of catering equipment to the 2010 event for public and VIP areas plus ‘back-of-house’ services.

The air show, being staged at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire on July 3rd and 4th, will feature a stunning selection of flying and static aircraft displays, together with attractions such as pleasure flights, military band performances and a classic car and vintage military vehicle exhibition. Other highlights are set to include the Red Arrows display team, the RAF Falcons Parachute Team and a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight featuring historic Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft.

Meanwhile, Thorns’ new agreement with the Royal International Air Tattoo will see the group supplying furniture across the event’s corporate hospitality facilities. For 2010, Thorns will provide items that include its Vancouver and Corbousier ranges of cream leather sofas and armchairs, plus banqueting tables and chairs, high-backed natural wooden chairs and items of office furniture.

Thorns’ in-house furniture workshop has also been commissioned to create bespoke reception desks specifically for the air tattoo. The square, modular units – created in a stylish fusion of wood and glass – have been designed to the express wishes of the client and will be in use in exhibitor areas across the site.

Taking place at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on July 17 and 18, the tattoo is one of the UK’s top outdoor family events. The 2010 show is due to feature a thrilling seven-and-a-half-hour flying display including jets, giant transporters and historic aircraft. Among many highlights visitors can get a glimpse of the US Air Combat Command’s new Raptor jet fighter and can enjoy other attractions such as stunt car driving, extreme sports, a Robot Zone and free evening concert.

Thorns’ Group Sales Director Clair Whitecross said: “Just like the UK’s top air shows, Thorns Group is flying high at the moment. Once again we’ll be playing a key role at the UK’s leading events. This is great news for us and adds to an action-packed summer for the Thorns team.”
