Thorns between the roses at Chelsea Flower Show

Thorns Group has secured a four-year contract to supply furniture and catering equipment to the world-famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Following a flourishing relationship with the show’s organisers, the Royal Horticultural Society, the new contract saw Thorns’ stock used in a broad range of areas including the media centre, hospitality areas, restaurants and exhibition halls.

Over 1,600 items were supplied including the stylish Lorenzo chairs in ivory and black, the hugely popular Tia range, banqueting chairs, trestle tables, bar stools, office furniture and catering equipment.

Thorns has been a long-time supplier to the internationally-famed horticultural event which took place this year between May 25 and 29 at its home in the grounds of Chelsea’s historic Royal Hospital. RHS Chelsea Flower Show attracted a record-breaking 157,000 visitors and is one of the most popular events of the year with the Royal Family with HM The Queen and senior royals attending.

Thorns’ Group Sales Director Clair Whitecross said: “RHS Chelsea Flower Show is the highlight of the horticultural calendar and we are proud to be associated with the event for another four years.

“We have built-up a successful relationship with the Royal Horticultural Society and continued to deliver innovative product ranges that suit the calibre of the high-profile show. This year we provided our Tia Range and Lorenzo Chairs which created the ‘wow-factor’ that the public expected.”

This year’s highlights included the first-ever full size tropical show garden in Chelsea's 100 year-plus history. ‘The Tourism Malaysia Garden’ designed by celebrity gardener James Wong and David Cubero captured the exoticism of the Far East and interpreted the diverse culture of Malaysia through unusual and vibrant plants.

The Great Pavilion was at the heart of the show with some of the best nurseries and growers from the UK and around the world showcasing their products. Around 600 exhibitors took part.

Spanning 590 square metres, the Eden Project’s ‘Places of Change’ was the largest-ever show garden at Chelsea. With around 40 different organisations involved, it was built by teams of individuals from homelessness services and ex-offenders from across England and Wales.

The Stephen Hawking Garden for Motor Neurone Disease, designed by Sue Hayward, took the inspiration from the professor’s book on the origins of black holes. The garden reflected the passage of time through the evolution of plants from the oldest to plants the UK could see if the climate change continues.

Celebrities to the show included Helen Mirren, Ringo Starr, Lulu, Twiggy, Nigella Lawson, Jerry Hall and comedian Rob Brydon.
