De Boer is set to conquer The Gathering 2009
De Boer has secured a contract to create a stunning backdrop to The Gathering 2009, one of the largest-ever celebrations of Scottish clans from across the world.
Taking place in Edinburgh on July 25th and 26th, the festivities will bring together representatives of around 125 clans and family societies for a succession of spectacular events including a Highland Games, Scottish Festival and pageant, as well as a parade along the city’s historic Royal Mile. De Boer will provide eighty-eight Pyramide tents, each measuring 3m by 3m, as well as forty 5m-by-5m Pyramides, to house a Clan Village, plus five Acropolis pavilions for a wide range of attractions such as whisky tasting and food sampling where visitors will be able to try out Scotland’s finest produce. The Brackley-based company will also provide Alu Halls for use as an entertainment venue and a VIP hospitality area. John Cochrane, De Boer’s Sales Director – Events, says: “De Boer is delighted to be part of this inaugural gathering, and I am personally very pleased to be involved especially as my clan will be represented. With many years of experience working on similar festivals, we have been able to assist the organisers in creating what will be a truly memorable occasion.” Celebrating Scotland’s rich history and cultural traditions, tens of thousands of people from all corners of the globe are expected to take part in this unique two-day event. Spectators will be in for a treat as there will be a Clan Parade starting from Holyrood Park and travelling up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle for the Clan Pageant. The Gathering 2009 within Holyrood Park will be hosting the 2009 Deuchars World Highland Games Heavy Events Championship, as well as piping and Scottish Highland dancing. In addition, some of the biggest names in Scottish music will be performing live on two dedicated stages, international best-selling authors will be reading from their works, and genealogists will be offering their expert advice on how to trace your roots. The Gathering 2009 is the centrepiece of Homecoming Scotland, a spectacular calendar of events marking the country’s great contributions to the world and commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of the poet Robert Burns. Jennifer Gilmour, Co-director – The Gathering 2009 Ltd, says: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with De Boer, who are providing the vast range of temporary structures for this prestigious event. Their level of professionalism and flexibility in the planning stages has been exceptional and I am in no doubt that everyone who comes to The Gathering 2009 will be very impressed by the visual layout and quality of temporary structures provided by De Boer.” For information about The Gathering 2009, please contact +44 (0) 131 561 1323 or log on to www.thegathering2009.com
