First National Flower Show set to bloom at Hylands

The countdown’s on to the first National Flower Show which will be bursting into colourful bloom at Hylands House later this month.

Between 17-19 July, over 220 of the country’s leading floral and garden exhibitors will be on hand offering the perfect day out for all gardening enthusiats.

Inside the stunning Grade II listed property in Chelmsford, Essex, 20 of the UK’s finest designers and nurseries will showcase breath-taking arrangements as they compete head-to-head to secure a coveted Gold award.

One such expert, who is hoping to repeat his recent success at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, is award-winning floral expert and demonstrator Mig Kimpton, of Mig Kimpton Flowers. During the three days Mig will be transforming the Drawing Room at Hylands House into a vibrant floral studio. He is also planning to showcase one of his infamous large floral installations and will also be inspiring visitors with his entertaining and enlightening demonstrations at 2pm each day.

Outside, Hylands’ beautifully manicured lawns will feature a treasure trove of quality plants and shrubs as well as the latest gardening products and gadgets at special event prices.

Matt Upson, Director of Aztec Events who also organise a number of other gardening events including the Blenheim Palace Flower Show, said: “We’re delighted to be launching and adding this new show to our events calendar. Hylands House is spectacular and offers such a beautiful backdrop to showcase the UK’s gardening talent. This has been recognised by exhibitors as we’ve already sold out of stand space and that’s no small feat for a brand new show!”

If you’re planning a garden makeover the National Flower Show will be brimming with local garden designers, paving and tree specialists to help create your own personal haven.

Experts including the much-loved garden designer, journalist and television personality Joe Swift will be sharing their knowledge and top tips in the dedicated Gardening Theatre.

And if you can't get your oleanders or bottlebrush to flower, or don't know how or when to prune them? Don't miss the chance to meet the show’s flowering shrub expert Paul Johnson. With more than 40 years’ experience and a wealth of knowledge on any shrub – especially the rare and unusual – Paul will answer any questions you may have.

Elsewhere, the Craft and Gift Pavilion will be packed with hand-made jewelry, hand-made cards, shabby chic furniture, ladies fashion, botanical products and candles. It is the perfect place to peruse the stands and pick up that unique gift for yourself or your loved ones. There will also be a local craft market - dedicated to local budding artists, craftsmen and designers.

The Food and Drink Festival is the perfect place to try delicious food from around the world while enjoying the sunshine. Sit back and relax in a deckchair while enjoying your ostrich burger or hummus with a glass of bubbly. Later on our cream tea pavilion is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the afternoon at The National Flower Show.
